Born in Patterson , NJ , Howard Walkowitz worked at his father’s auto parts warehouse for twenty years. Upon reiteration, he moved to Coral Springs with his two daughters. He raised his daughters for the next thirty years in which they moved on to be college scholars.
Now out of retirement , he is currently owning the South Florida Gold. We are happy to have a leader like him to bring us to the championship.
Moved from Brooklyn, NY to south Florida in 1991 with my wife, Marie, and our children Michael and Victoria, after an auto involved accident forced my retirement from 13 years with NYPD as a sergeant for my last seven years. I was always into standards, oldies, doowops, motown, and music in general since the early 50's. Worked as a youngster selling 45 and 33 rpm vinyl records retail, participated in various school choruses and choirs, and worked my way up from usher to assistant movie theater manager in Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island.
Went to serve our country enlisting in the Navy, and did a short tour of duty in Saigon, Viet Nam war zone, from 1964 - 66.
Sports also played an important part in my life, as a child New York had the NY Yankees and Giants (baseball and football), the Brooklyn Dodgers, and in basketball the NY Knicks and New York Nets. We had teams for all seasons! Pitching was my baseball passion, until I tore a rotator cuff throwing fastballs while on a semi-pro east Penn league team, and switched to, of all positions, catcher.
I got a call from a friend in 2013 after he received a solicitation from a coach of a brand new professional basketball team called the South Florida Gold saying they were looking for someone to head their entertainment and events responsibilities. A meeting with the owners over lunch, and now three years and two successful team seasons later, I now welcome the challenge of my new position as the team's owner's special assistant. I assist our owner, Michale Watson, with his day-to-day operations duties and responsibilities as his eyes and ears.
I have made lots of great relationships with all of the team staff members and players. I also get to promote our team solidifying relationships with the local schools, businesses, and governments from the cities and communities we represent as part of the American Basketball Association.
Marie Addonizio Kovit
Married Lew Kovit in 1980 while we lived in the same apartment building, almost across the hall from each other, but, he lived one floor below my family. I worked in retail as a teen while going to school, and grew up as the youngest of two children. My family always lived and worked in Brooklyn. Lew and I married in 1980, made a couple of moves as we worked on expanding our own family, but still remained living in Brooklyn. Our lives changed forever when our first child was born in 1984, and our second in 1987. Our children are now 31 and 27 years old.
We moved to Florida after Lew's accident forced his retirement and his condition made it impossible for him to sustain liiving in the cold and icy snowy conditions he'd be unable to get around outdoors in the winter months.
I worked in child care for our first 8 years in Florida. It was a new experience for me, a challenge I welcomed because, having birthed our children, and getting them into their young-adult age, I would now go back to growing other parents children while the parents had to be at work. I grew to love some of the young children more and more, and especially after they bonded with me, kind of as if I was their "other mommy" or "grandma".
Since our time with the South Florida Gold, it's owners, staff, and players have become our extended family. I try to do whatever I'm called on to do for our players and the team. We've had players staying at our home while in season. Helped them find work, and showed support for them at the teams games. I try to get to travel with the team as time and circumstances allow for me to travel. I'm proud of our teams successes, and always disappointed when we don't win! We're family and we will continue to focus all our collective efforts toward winning the championship for us and all of south Florida next March.
